Episode 6 - The Big Break

song recipe activity quiz

Billie out in the rain They're going like the clappers around here. "It's broken! It's broken! The break has come!" Everyone at Downsanup Downs has been celebrating. It's the sort of news that sends a tingle down the back seam of my pod.

You'd think all the others would be just as excited, wouldn't you? The youngest seeds just heard the word 'break' and started worrying about something being broken. They sobbed, "It's not our fault! We didn't break anything! Don't blame us!" A few even had nightmares.

Chelsea singing and dancingChelsea Chickpea's reaction was the funniest! She danced past me, singing "I'm a pulse! I'm a pulse!" She was practising her favourite number for the talent agent she thought was coming. She thought her big break had finally come. After all, Wally Wheat was very impressed with her! Boy did she turn as red as the shoes she had on when she found out what the break really was. How embarassing! Nevermind. Chelsea sometimes gets things wrong, but she's got a heart of gold.

Freddy readingOf course Freddy Faba knew that the break was the first big rain of the season. Everyone gets cranking when the long, dry spell of summer is finally broken and the growing season gets going. Freddy's a great guy and very cluey. He's serious and thoughtful and would never make fun of the others just because they got the story wrong. His family thrives in mediterranean regions. But that means they have a lot of time during the long dry months of summer.

They spent last summer reading books like "Improve Your Image - You too can be the most popular seed on the block!" and "101 Ways to Make Their Tastebuds Tingle - A legume's guide to understanding humans". When you have November to May, you can get a lot of reading done! Anyway, they're all in the ground now, struggling with their push ups. But that's another story...
