Flowers

a chickpea flower*

Chelsea Chickpea and Petra Pea both started life as tiny egg cells deep inside a flower.

Chelsea's very proud of how she grew and would like to share her baby photos with you.

Picture 1:- Chelsea Chickpea and her twin brother Charles as egg cells inside the ovary of a chickpea flower.

Picture 2:- Chelsea and Charles become seeds when pollen from a chickpea flower reaches them. The pollen reaches them by growing down a tube into the ovary of the flower.

Picture 3:- Chelsea and Charles in their pod. The petals have dropped off the flower, and the ovary has become the pod. Chelsea and Charles are snug inside - they are now young chickpea seeds.
