The Nodule Module

a print based teaching resource for years 8-10 students

The Nodule Module is the first activity guide in the 'Legume Kit' for use in Australian schools. The guide is a collection of fun-filled activities promoting a process-based approach to learning by using experiential activities and learning environments.

  • "Legumes Our Eco-Friends" has students contacting and interviewing persons from Departments of Agriculture and local garden centre staff as part of the activity. The 'hands-on' approach provides students with opportunities to discover and explore concepts in agriculture and agricultural science in a meaningful and contextual framework.
  • In "Need A Fix", students grow legumes with and without special fertiliser bugs: "rhizobia". Many of the activities emphasize the impact of agricultural findings from a local, national, and global perspective.
  • "Who's Hungry?" employs a simulation game to highlight world issues such as: population growth, the use of non-renewable resources, and political decision-making.
CLIMA is eager to distribute and pilot test the Nodule Module to teachers and schools as a means of evaluating and maintaining the cycle of continuous improvement in their curriculum materials. If you, or your school, would be interested in using the activities and would like more information on the Nodule Module or any of CLIMA's education initiatives, please contact Mr. Greg Madson.
